Monday 8th April 2019 – File Types

One potentially confusing aspect of modern-day photography is the overwhelming variety of file types relating to digital images. At our meeting on Monday 8th April, vice-chairman, Ian Bridge, introduced a discussion on the many and varied file types and the best ways to deal with them.

In the words of member, John Nockolds, Ian presented the subject in an entertaining and humourous way. He compared RAW, Tiff, and JPeg files and their suitability for filing and printing and had researched the many aspects of image storage, warning about reliability of hard drives and solid state and comparisons with the Cloud and system back-ups.

As a result of a great deal of investigation, research and planning, Ian was able to turn a potentially dry subject into a lively discussion whilst dismissing a few myths and providing some timely warnings as to the need to protect our prize possessions – our images.
